PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The four-year pre-service degree program prepares trade teachers for post primary institutions. Subjects taken include trade theory and practical, academic and education.  The graduates can teach in the different areas of their chosen technology as well as their minor either Mathematics, English or Religious Education. Industry experience and Practice Teaching are included in the curriculum. Graduates by virtue of their technical training can also work in the industry as trade persons or as trainers.

CURRICULUM DESIGN

Students of the Bachelor of Education–Technical in Computer Technology are required to complete a minimum of one hundred seventy-six units of study. The minimum number refers to the compulsory units and excludes the units that can be earned by taking the elective units. By covering the required units in every year level a semester, it would take participants four years to complete the program. The elective units offered in this program are Workshop/ Laboratory Management and Entrepreneurship Education.

Moreover, the students are engaged in twelve weeks (6 weeks each during their 3rd and 4th Years) of Practice Teaching in the recognized secondary school or technical/vocational colleges or centres in the country to harness their skills in their chosen field of profession.

In addition to the intensive training to mould a true Bosconian, In-Plant Training (IPT) is included in the Bachelor Program. It is composed of sixteen weeks (8 weeks each during their 1st and 2nd Years) industry experience. This is to give the students a firsthand experience in the world of actual work by being indentured in the different companies around the National Capital District. On a case-to-case basis, students are allowed to go for their IPT outside of Port Moresby especially if they need to do their industry experience in their sponsoring companies.

A three-year program that integrates hardware and software skills to produce graduates that can find themselves employed as IT Support technicians in the fields of PC Maintenance and Servicing, network and system support, web development and database administration. The Bachelor in Instrumentation Technology as a demand-driven program aims to meet the needs of the community and focuses on the integral development of the students to become holistic, competitive and patriotic professionals who shall uphold the development of an export-driven economy that could efficiently and globally compete. 

Specifically, for the Bachelor in Instrumentation Technology, this program is aimed at providing competent technicians in the fields of engineering installation, repair and maintenance of process control systems in manufacturing environments, design and program process controls, and human – machine interface. The graduates can fit-in in small to large scale industrial operations such as the mining and petroleum sectors.  The graduates can also be employed as technical teachers for technical, vocational and secondary schools.  Graduates can teach in the areas of basic electricity, basic electronics and basic programming.
