WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE DBTI PRESIDENT & RECTOR
Welcome to Don Bosco Technological Institute.
I welcome all the Staff and Students both continuing and new, to the 2017 academic year. I am writing to you on this day 31st January, the Feast day of St John Bosco, the Founder of our Congregation, who had a special calling for the youth. I trust that together, we can make DBTI the best institution it can be.
To our partners, benefactors and colleagues, I would like to express our deep appreciation for your trust in us, your support and involvement in the development of DBTI. Each year with your assistance DBTI is able to raise its academic and administrative standards.
For the last thirteen (13) years, DBTI was affiliated to Divine Word University (DWU). Last year (2016), DBTI decided not to renew its affiliation agreement with DWU and decided to apply to the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) for institutional and program accreditations. The affiliation partnership with DWU ceased on the 25th November, 2016. Interestingly, on that very day, the Minister for the DHERST, Honorable Minister Francis Marus, presented DBTI with a Certificate of Institutional Registration to DHERST. This means DBTI is now a registered Institute of Higher Learning under DHERST.
DBTI also applied for program accreditation and submitted a total of twenty-one (21) programs on May 13th 2016 to DHERST. This process in still ongoing and still awaiting assessment and approval from DHERST. Our total intake of first year students for 2017 is 525. Enrolment commenced 23rd January and should close on Friday February 10th, 2017. These first year new intakes are now registering under DBTI as a standalone institute of higher learning while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students continue with the old programs under DWU until 2019.
In 2017, DBTI is charting a new pathway for its students and other young people of PNG. The road is going to be challenging and I can assure you all that DBTI is committed to making this journey a success. To all who have joined us, welcome and thank you, and to those who are still on the way, we wish you every success.
God bless you all.
Fr. Louie Castañeda, SDB
